We would like to thank the community for its outstanding support…

The ACIA has stated that. . .

In order to protect home values and the integrity of our neighborhood, the ACIA hopes to purchase the Atascocita Golf Course and Country Club building.  In light of the past few months, it has become apparent that if the community does not make an effort to direct the course of our future, we are at the whim and mercy of unknown parties trying to leverage the land in and surrounding our homes to make a profit.  We feel by the ACIA purchasing the property in conjunction with our residents it allows the entire community to be involved in the future of our neighborhood.  It will be our community’s responsibility to decide how best to utilize the land for our home values, protection of our residents and to the betterment of our neighborhood.

Older Post:

Since the June 18th meeting, a number of people worked to try and find a way to make Atascocita Country Club a member owned club and reinstate the deed restrictions to insure the property would remain a golf course.

The bulk of the donations received have been used to retain a real estate attorney.  He is currently exploring the options of changing the HOA bylaws to collect a monthly fee from residents to help offset the cost of operating the golf course, as well as other possible alternatives to reach the same result.  The attorney is also working on the possibility for reinstating the deed restrictions to insure that the property will remain a golf course.

Contacts were made with the majority of residents asking them to invest in the purchase of the club, and/or make a commitment to become a member.  Many of these meetings proved to be successful and we were excited at the support the community demonstrated.  A large number of residents stepped up and pledged funds to purchase the club, while an even larger number committed to become full golf members.

As we went over the numbers, the concern for sustaining the monthly income became more and more prevalent.  We knew money was needed for improvements in order to provide the members a club to which they would want to belong, and at the same time continue to attract new members.  While initially the numbers were there, the concern for the future was of concern.

Discussions were also held with owners of other golf courses, and they were not interested unless the residents adopted some type of monthly fee.

Unfortunately, Atascocita Concerned Citizens’ efforts to facilitate a member owned club were unsuccessful.  We will continue to monitor the situation and offer to work with any group that has interest in operating the golf course with the best interest of the neighborhood in mind.

There are many residents who offered their help to us and we feel that if the right buyer comes along these same residents will still be willing to help recruit members.  We feel being able to offer this type of community support is a huge advantage in attracting a buyer.

Thanks for all of your input and support.  As long as we stay together and work for the right things, this will remain the type of community in which we want to live and raise our families.
